Where the Lincoln looks best

It suits a formal frontage. Either side of a gate, at the head of a path, or anywhere the house has some symmetry to answer. A pair reads far better than a single one in that setting.

Give the pedestal room. Planting tight around the base hides the detail you paid for, so keep low ground cover back about a foot and let the panels show.

Wiring: hardwired or solar

For a hardwired outdoor lamp post, run the cable up inside the 4x4 before the sleeve goes on, and trench for it while the footing is open. Retrofitting power to a post already set in concrete means digging it up.

A solar or battery lantern mounts the same way with nothing run to it, which on a driveway marker is usually plenty.

Installing it

Dig below the frost line, set the 4x4, let the concrete cure. Slide the sleeve on, level it, fix it with the supplied screws and a 3/16 inch bit.

Two people makes it easier, mostly for holding it plumb. On a pedestal post especially, a lean shows up against the horizontal lines of the base.
