Retractable Awnings

Motorized retractable awnings from $1,277.83, 8 to 24 ft wide, in 39 acrylic fabric colors. Press the remote and the patio is shaded in under a minute. Made in Texas, shipped fully assembled, delivery included to the lower 48.

Retractable Awnings for Patios and Decks

A patio that sits in full sun from noon to five is a patio your guests stop using at noon. A retractable awning fixes that without a permanent roof: it rolls out when the sun is on the seating and rolls back in when the weather turns or the property is empty. Every awning here is motorized, arrives fully assembled, and comes from one American maker, Awntech of Euless, Texas. Prices run from $1,277.83 for an 8 ft open-roll unit to $4,737.99 for a 24 ft full cassette, and delivery to the lower 48 states is included.

Why Motorized, and Why Only Motorized

We stock the motorized versions only, on purpose. A hand-crank awning needs someone to find the crank, hook it, and wind for a minute. In a rental nobody does that, so the awning stays rolled up and the money spent on it earns nothing. A motor with a pre-paired remote turns it into a button on the kitchen counter. Guests use it, which means your listing photo of the shaded patio is true when they arrive.

The motor is installed at the factory on the side you choose, left or right, and plugs into a standard 110V outdoor outlet with a 12 ft cord. There is a manual override for the day the power is out. If you want a crank-only model from the same maker, ask us and we can order it.

The Three Models, Side by Side

All three share the same frame, arms, motor and acrylic fabric. What changes is how much of the rolled-up fabric is protected when the awning is closed, and that is what you are paying for as you move up.

Model What protects the fabric 12 ft x 10 ft price Price range Best for
Maui
Open roll
Nothing. The fabric rolls onto a bare tube on the wall. $1,745.12 $1,277.83 to $3,817.99 A covered or sheltered wall, a tight budget, or a dry climate. The one Awntech sells most.
Destin
Hood (semi-cassette)
An aluminum hood over the top and sides of the roll. The front bar stays visible. $1,945.12 $1,477.83 to $4,117.99 Under trees, near the coast, or anywhere it rains on a rolled-up awning for weeks.
Key West
Full cassette
A closed aluminum box. Fabric, arms and front bar all disappear inside it. $2,265.12 $1,797.83 to $4,737.99 A property you only visit between guests, or a wall where the awning has to look like part of the house.

If you are not sure, the Destin is the sensible middle. It costs $200 more than the Maui at 12 by 10 ft and keeps the fabric clean for years longer. Go to the Key West when the awning is on the front of the house or the fabric will be rolled up for most of the year.

How to Pick a Size

Measure the wall, not the patio. You need a clear band of wall at least 96 inches off the ground, as wide as the awning, with nothing in the way: no light fixtures, no gutters, no upstairs windows in the drop zone. Widths run 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 and 24 ft. Projection, which is how far the awning reaches out from the wall, is 6.5 ft on the 8 ft width, 8 ft on the 10 ft width, and 10 ft on everything 12 ft and wider.

The 12 ft by 10 ft is the size we are asked for most. It shades a six-seat dining table with room to walk around it. If the seating runs along the house, go to 14 or 16 ft. Each product page links to Awntech's measuring guide, and we will happily measure it with you over the phone before you order.

Patio or Deck: Where It Mounts

Every awning ships with wall brackets, and a wall is where most of them go. Mount into studs, headers or masonry, never into siding alone. On a deck where the house wall is too low, or where there is a window exactly where the awning wants to be, Awntech sells roof brackets and soffit brackets separately. Tell us what you are mounting to and we will tell you which bracket, before you buy.

Installation is brackets, lift, bolt and adjust. Awntech puts it at one to two hours with two people. The 12 ft units weigh about 110 to 125 lb, so plan on a second pair of hands and two ladders. If you would rather not, our installer matching service finds a local pro at no charge for the matching.

Fabric, Frame and Warranty

The fabric is 100 percent solution-dyed acrylic, the same class of fabric used on boat canvas, in 39 colors on the Maui and Destin and 22 on the Key West. It holds its color far longer than the polyester on budget awnings and can be replaced on its own when you want a new look. The frame is powder-coated aluminum and steel with stainless hardware, and the lateral arms carry dual stainless cables tested to 30 mph.

The warranty is 5 years on frame and fabric, prorated after year one, and 1 year on the motor and remote. The arms themselves are not covered, and neither is wind or storm damage. We tell you that here because it shapes the next section.

Treat it as shade, not shelter. No retractable awning of any brand is a roof. Retract it in gusty weather, before you leave the property between guests, and never let rain pool on the fabric. Awntech makes a wireless wind sensor that retracts the awning on its own when the wind picks up. For a rental where nobody is home to press the button, it is worth asking us about.

Delivery and Lead Time

Every awning is made to order in Texas and ships fully assembled in about 5 business days. The 8 ft size ships by parcel to your door. Everything 10 ft and wider goes LTL freight, which means a semi truck, curbside delivery, and a phone call to set an appointment. Someone has to be there to sign. Plan on roughly three weeks from order to curb, and call us for today's real number. Delivery is included in the price for the lower 48 states. Our shipping page has the details.

Questions Hosts Ask

How much does a motorized retractable awning cost?

From $1,277.83 for an 8 ft open-roll Maui to $4,737.99 for a 24 ft Key West full cassette, delivery included. The 12 ft by 10 ft size most people want is $1,745.12 (Maui), $1,945.12 (Destin) or $2,265.12 (Key West). These are the same prices the maker charges on its own site. If you find one lower, call us and we will beat it.

Can my guests break it?

The usual way an awning gets damaged is being left out in wind. The remote has an up button and a down button, and the motor stops itself at the limits, so there is nothing to over-wind. Put a card by the remote that says "bring the awning in when the wind picks up," or fit the wind sensor so it comes in on its own.

Does it need an electrician?

Only if there is no outdoor outlet within 12 ft of the motor end. The motor plugs into a standard 110V outlet. Pick the motor side to match the outlet: stand in the yard facing the wall, and whichever side the outlet is on is your motor side.

Will it fit a deck instead of a patio?

Yes, as long as there is wall above the deck to mount to, at least 96 inches up. If the wall is too low or a window is in the way, roof or soffit brackets solve it. Send us a photo of the wall and we will tell you which.

How long does the fabric last?

Solution-dyed acrylic holds its color for years longer than the polyester on budget awnings, and longer still when it spends its downtime under a hood or inside a cassette. Awntech warrants the fabric for 5 years. When it does eventually fade, the fabric is replaceable without replacing the frame. Swatch samples are available on request so you can hold the color against your siding.

What if I measured wrong?

Awntech accepts returns within 30 days for a defect on arrival. A change of mind or a wrong measurement gets merchandise credit less a 25 percent restocking fee, and you pay the return freight. That is why we offer to measure it with you first. Cancellations are free for 24 hours after ordering.

Do you sell manual crank awnings or fixed awnings?

Not on the site, but the same maker builds them and we can order any of them for you. Tell us what you need. For something permanent, see our pergola and pavilion kits.

Not Sure Which One?

Tell us the width of the wall, which side the outlet is on, and what is above the patio (open sky, trees, a deep eave), and we will tell you which of the three fits and what size to order. Call or text 1 800 914 0074 or 352 274 6387, or email sales@optimaloutdooroasis.com. Prefer to pay by bank transfer? Save 3 percent on the product price; ask and we will send an invoice.
