Finished, Not Ready-to-Finish

Most gas fire pit kits on the market are sold "ready to finish." That means a concrete hardiboard box with a burner dropped into it. It arrives grey and raw, and it's not something anyone wants on a patio until a mason has clad it in stone. That's another trade, another wait, and usually another four figures on top of the kit price.

This one arrives finished. Powder-coated aluminum in a wood-look, nothing to clad, nothing to seal, nothing to repaint. Set it on the prepared site, have the top installed and the gas connected, and it's done.

If you already have a mason you trust and you want real stone, a ready-to-finish kit can be the right call, it saves time on the job site, which often means lower labor cost. The tradeoff is weight: a stone-clad structure is heavier, which matters if you're setting it on a deck or a slab without footers. If you want it handled in an afternoon with nothing to clad, this is the one.

The Burner

You can buy this as a complete, working fire pit. Choose a burner package and it arrives with the pan, the burner, and the ignition specified together, so there's nothing left to go find.

Match-Light package. A Warming Trends U140 Original burner rated to 140,000 BTU, with the key-valve ignition kit: a 36" whistle-free flex line, the 3/4" connector, the key valve, and both keys. You light it with a match at the valve. Simple, proven, nothing electronic to fail.

Mercury Safety Pilot package. The same U140 burner, but the ignition is a Warming Trends Mercury safety pilot on a mounting plate. If the flame blows out, it shuts the gas off by itself. On a property where guests use the fire pit without you standing there, that's the one to buy.

Natural gas or propane, choose carefully. The burner is built for one or the other and they aren't interchangeable. Once it ships it can't be exchanged, so the wrong pick means buying a second burner. If you're not certain what the property runs, call us before you order and we'll work it out with you.

Fire glass and lava rock aren't included. There are too many looks to stock them all, so you choose your own media. Ask us what wears well outdoors and we'll tell you.

The Hard Part

Shipping is free to the lower 48 states, delivered curbside by LTL freight with a liftgate included. Alaska, Hawaii, and international addresses are quoted separately. Getting it from the curb to its final spot on the property is on you, this is a compact pallet, not something that needs a crew, but plan for it.

Level ground is not negotiable: concrete, pavers, or a proper foundation. Sloped ground or soft soil means site prep on your end, and that's money and work. Get it wrong and the pit sits crooked, the burner doesn't run right, and you have a safety problem on a property full of guests.

Gas connection is professional work. The ignition switch and any vents are fitted at the factory with the labor included, but the burner, the hose, and the valve are installed on site. Because that's gas work, the manufacturer strongly recommends a licensed professional, and so do we.

Square or Round?

Round is open on all sides, the classic campfire arrangement, and works best on large open ground.

Square has sides that work with patio geometry, fits tight spaces better, and makes bench seating easy.

Pick square if the property has a defined patio, a corner to anchor, or you want guests sitting shoulder to shoulder. Pick round if you want the gathering-around-the-fire feeling on open land.

Honest About Lead Time

The factory is quoting 3 to 4 weeks from order to shipped. If the size and finish you want is already on the shelf, it leaves within 5 business days, which puts it on your patio in about two weeks. We check with the factory when you order and tell you which of those you're looking at before you commit.

Questions We Hear

Which burner package should I get? If guests will use the fire pit when you're not there, take the Mercury Safety Pilot: it shuts the gas off on its own if the flame goes out. If you're the one lighting it, the Match-Light package is proven and costs less. Either way, tell us whether the property runs natural gas or propane and we'll confirm you're ordering the right one before it goes to the factory.

Do I still have to finish the outside? No. This is the clad version, so the wood-look powder-coated aluminum exterior is the finish. That's the difference between the Firefly line and the bare ready-to-finish frames, which do need a mason.

How long does assembly take? There's no frame to assemble, it ships fully welded. Two people, about a half-day to get it leveled, squared, and the top set. The burner hookup is a professional job on top of that, so budget a few hours and roughly $200 to $400.

What ground space do I need? The 36" itself needs clear space around it. Figure 15 feet in the direction people sit and 12 feet across. Closer than that puts guests too near the heat.

Does this include a grill? No. This is a fire feature. If you want to cook outdoors, look at the grill islands instead.

Can I winterize it or move it? Winterizing is simple: drain any standing water and cover it. Moving it is heavy, so don't plan to relocate it between seasons.

Do I need a building permit? Check your local ordinances, because some jurisdictions require permits for gas appliances. We can't advise on that one, so call your county before ordering if you're unsure.
