Westword calls it one of the most epic patios in Denver, and the reason is the fire pits — the yard is packed with them. That's not decoration in this city. That's the thing that keeps a patio full in October when everywhere else has given up.
It's a sprawling space rather than an intimate one. Go with a group; it's built for groups.
Number Thirty Eight
RiNo
One of the largest patios in the city, and they're not shy about it — "The Best Patio In Denver" is written on their own homepage. We're not going to arbitrate that, but the scale is real and the claim tells you what they think they're selling.
Happy hour runs Tuesday to Thursday, and the pricing is a joke about the name. You'll spot it.
My Brother's Bar
Highland
One of the oldest bars in Denver, with a walled garden patio behind it. The building has been serving drinks since well before anyone thought of a patio as an amenity.
It's the opposite of the RiNo venues above — smaller, older, quieter, and with no interest in being a destination. Go for the burger and the shade.
The Patio at Sloan's
4032 W 17th Avenue, Sloan's Lake
The patio is in the name, which is a useful signal. This is a restaurant built around its outdoor seating rather than one that added tables outside, and it looks onto Sloan's Lake.
Of everything on this list it's the most straightforwardly pleasant — water, sun, no concept to decode.
Hops & Pie
3920 Tennyson St, Berkeley
Pizza and a serious beer list on Tennyson, which is the most walkable patio strip in the city. You can start here and not need to drive anywhere else.
Which of these work in the cold
Denver genuinely does patios in winter, and that's not a stretch — the altitude means bright, still afternoons in the forties where sitting outside in a coat is pleasant rather than grim.
Improper City is the clearest bet, because a yard full of fire pits solves the problem directly. Beyond that, the honest answer is to call ahead. None of the others publish their winter arrangements, and we're not going to invent heaters for them.
What the search data shows is telling: nationally, people looking for heated patios peak in November, December and January — the exact months the general patio search collapses. In Denver more than anywhere else on this list, that's a real season rather than a handful of stragglers.
A practical note on timing
The good months run March through October, which is a longer stretch than most of the country gets. Afternoon thunderstorms are a summer feature — they arrive fast, pass quickly, and covered seating is worth asking about between June and August.
Altitude is worth respecting on a patio. The sun is harder here than it feels.
