The reason a patio empties at eight o'clock in October is not that people want to go in. It is that they are cold. Two wall or ceiling mounted electric heaters cover the seating area properly, and a gas flame lantern gives the space something to look at once the light goes.

Why Electric and Gas Together

Electric does the actual heating

Infrared warms people and surfaces rather than the air, so it still works in a breeze where a patio umbrella heater does not. Mounted overhead it takes up no floor space, there is no gas bottle to swap between guests, and nothing can be knocked over.

And it costs a third of what people expect

A 4000W electric heater runs at roughly 68 cents an hour at average US electricity prices. A 40,000 BTU propane heater runs at roughly $2 an hour once you account for what a 20 lb tank costs to fill. Most people assume it is the other way around.

The lantern does the atmosphere

A real flame is what makes people stay outside rather than just tolerate being outside. It throws useful heat too, but its actual job is to give the space a centre after dark.

Sizing

Two 4000W units cover a typical patio or deck seating area — roughly the space a six to eight person table and a couple of chairs occupy. Larger or more exposed spaces want the 6000W units instead; see the full heater range or ask and we will work it out with you.
